There are artists who spend their lives searching for a language.

And there are those who find one, then spend a lifetime discovering how far it can go.

Yayoi Kusama found infinity in repetition.

A single dot became thousands.
A mirror became a horizon.
A room became somewhere without walls.

She took simple forms and repeated them until they seemed to lose their edges until the object disappeared and only the feeling remained.

Perhaps that is what a lifetime of making eventually becomes.

You begin with your hands.
A brush. A canvas. An idea that refuses to leave you.

You return to it tomorrow.

Then again years later.

The world changes around you, but something inside keeps asking the same question in different ways.

For Kusama, that question lasted a lifetime.

Decades passed. Movements came and went. Generations discovered her, then another generation discovered her again.

Still, she kept making.

There is something beautiful about that kind of devotion.

To spend almost a century on this earth and leave behind rooms where infinity still exists.

The artist eventually has to leave.

The universe she imagined does not.
